Our “Be Inspired to Hire!” event was a huge success!

Parents Alliance Employment Project was honored to present two awards: the Business Champion of the Year Award to Northwestern Medicine/Central DuPage Hospital and the Employee of the Year Award to former Project SEARCH participant, Tim Barg. Northwestern Medicine/Central DuPage Hospital was presented with the Business Champion of the Year award for demonstrating a commitment to promote employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

As a business host site, Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital launched the Project SEARCH program in 2014, a program in which students with disabilities participate in three, 10-week long internships that allow them to gain real-life vocational skills in a variety of hospital departments. At the completion of the internships, students are placed into competitive employment, giving them the opportunity to be contributing members to their community. As a result of implementing this program, Northwestern Medicine and Project SEARCH has hosted 32 individuals with disabilities, placing 30 into competitive employment. Northwestern Medicine alone has hired 8 individuals! Northwestern Medicine is true example of a business where people with disabilities are seen as the standard rather than the exception.

A wonderful Video about our partner Northwestern Medicine/Central DuPage Hospital.

Tim Barg was presented with the Employee of the Year award. In 2014, Tim Barg started the Project SEARCH program at Northwestern Medicine/Central Dupage Hospital with minimal work experience. After enrolling in the Project SEARCH program, Tim participated in three internships throughout the hospital including the Linen Department, Respiratory Therapy, and Interventional Radiology. Although Tim did great in each of these internships, he particularly excelled in the Linen Department and became close to his manager, Rick Logan. Rick quickly became a mentor to Tim, helping him gain the skills he needed to be successful and hired Tim in the Linen Department as a Linen Tech. As a Linen Tech, Tim organizes the various linens, folds baby clothes, and delivers linens to the floors of various departments at their request. In addition to fulfilling his daily work requirements, Tim brings life and personality to his job and to others around him in his work environment. He has gained valuable lifelong skills at Northwestern medicine that has helped him become the successful employee and individual he is today. Tim takes pride in his work and his ability to be able to connect with everyone has grown through the years. Congratulations to Tim on a job well done. Way to go!

A HUGE thank you to all who attended the event!
